War is always accompanied by disease and destruction. Medicine exists in a complex interplay with the horrors of war: it is meant to save lives, yet as part of the military apparatus, it also becomes a tool of war. What (war-specific) diseases were soldiers particularly exposed to during World War I, and how did medicine respond to them? What injuries did soldiers sustain, and how did society deal with the wounded body? What medical boundaries did World War II push? These and many other questions will be explored during the guided tour of the permanent exhibition.
