Public Action (Festival)

The public action will explore the horizontal as a site for connection, solidarity and activism in the public spaces along the MuseumsMeileMitte: from the Berlin Museum of Medical History, through the Hamburger Bahnhof, to the Futurium, and back. Open to disabled and nondisabled folk, the action takes inspiration from the spirit of a flash mob, reclaiming public space through rest and sharing stories of disabled people’s experiences of trying to rest in public. The walk between the sites is part of the action. The route is wheel chair accessible, and everyone is invited to move at their own pace and join or leave at any time.

Raquel Meseguer Zafe is a UK-based artist working at the intersection of dance, theatre, performance, and disability practice. Her work explores chronic pain, rest, accessibility, and alternative ways of inhabiting public spaces. She is the founder of Unchartered Collective, creating participatory and socially engaged performances. Through her practice, she challenges normative ideas of bodies, productivity, and care. Her projects combine research, storytelling, movement, and collective experience.

The event is part of the festival "Horizontal – Practices and Politics of Lying Down", taking place on 12 and 13 September at the Berlin Museum of Medical History.
